Christmas cards strewn across motorway as post truck crashes

By Rachael Williams

A post truck travelling between Austria and Germany turned over spilling Xmas post on the road after it was forced to crash by a car in Munich.

The articulated vehicle which had been loaded with 11 tonnes of Christmas post was travelling along an icy road on Thursday (6 December 2012) when it swerved to avoid a car and crashed into the central crash barrier. The impact caused the truck to split open and spill its contents over the motorway.

Following the incident the A8 motorway was closed for 8 hours in the direction of Salzburg.

The German media have made light of the incident with headlines such as „Dear Austrians, now you must be brave" and "What a mess!"

Most of the packages and letters managed to escape the ordeal unharmed. There were also no people injured in the accident.
