Paulus future in doubt over Salzburg scandal

Eduard Paulus, director of the public asset management of the federal state Salzburg, who should have supervised the rogue portfolio manager that gambled away close to 340 million Euro in the recent financial scandal, is still not facing sanctions.

Paulus is a representatives of the Austrian Peoples Party (ÖVP), and so far only a member of the Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPÖ), David Brenner, has had to resign because of the affair.

The first anonymous complaint has been filed against him already a week ago, without effect. Legally speaking, a complaint has to come from Paulus' superior, Christian Marckhgott, the Director of the State government's office, who is also said to be close to the ÖVP. That however has not happened until now.

Paulus has meanwhile resigned as president of the "Österreichische Offiziersgesllschaft", an unrelated lobby organisation which concerns itself with defence policy in Austria.

According to a press release, he wants to "fully dedicate his time for the clarification of facts" of the recent financial scandal.
