Recruit gets stuck in chimney

Police got an unusual call out after an army recruit called them to say he was stuck in a chimney in Salzburg, Austria.

Police report the man called polcie and said: "I am a soldier and I am stuck in a chimney get me out of here!"

The incident occurred at 3:30 yesterday (Thursday), shortly after Thomas R (19) raised the alarm and contacted the police.

The officers initially thought it was a prank but soon realised the Upper-Austrian really was in trouble in Salzburg's Schwarzenberg barracks. T

he emergency crews were quickly on site and followed the cries for help into the dark, climbing onto the roof and dragged the young man out.

The leader of the emergency operation said: "He helped us himself a bit. We were able to pull him out like on a pulley. He used his legs to make sure he didn't slide back down."

When asked by the police what he had been looking for in the chimney, Thomas R replied: "I was only looking for a superior."

A test showed the soldier had a blood alcohol level of 1,4 per thousand he had to be treated in hospital after this bizarre fall.
