Jagger ring battle enters its fourth year of legal battles

Four-and-a-half years after Rolling Stone Mick Jagger's ex Bianca lost her ring whilst in Salzburg, Austria, the finder's battle for compensation has taken another bizarre twist.

Human rights campaigner Bianca lost the massive platinum and aquamarine sparkler estimated to be worth 160,000 GBP when it fell from her finger outside a hotel while she was attending the Salzburg music festival.

Reinhard Ringler - who found the ring - is under Austrian law entitled to 5 per cent of the ring's value as a reward for handing it in. However, Jagger allegedly only offered Ringler 800 GBP at the time.

Ringler found the jewellery in the street outside the star's hotel and almost threw it away because it looked like a cheap toy.

But he took it home and gave it to his 13-year-old daughter until he read about Bianca's loss and then took it straight to his local police station.

Furious Ringler  from Salzburg, Austria decided to sue Jagger claiming he was entitles to at least 8,000 GBP.

However, Bianca now wants to prove to the court that the ring is much less valuable than first estimated.

The latest hearing in the case is to take place on February 5th in Salzburg, but now Bianca's legal team have produced legal documents from an expert witness from a Salzburg precious jewel lab claiming the ring is only worth 15,000 GBP.

This would mean the finder would only legally be entitles to 750 GBP compensation.

However the Salzburg man's lawyer Alexander Schuberth said: "The expert witness papers from Jewellery Eigner is dated 18.11.2010. That is more than two years ago.

According to Schuberth there had never been any mention of the ring being worth less during correspondence with Jagger's lawyers Lansky, Ganzger & Partner in the past two years.

Schuberth said: "The original estimated value of the ring around 160,000 GBP was given by Jagger herself.

But now according to Schuberth in the new documents Jagger says due to the fact that she never insured the ring, she did not know how much the ring was worth.

"She designed the ring for her daughter and didn't think at the time to insure it. Where Jagger got the value of the ring as 160,000 GBP will remain a long going mystery. Personally she has never appeared in the court.

"The fact the ring is now being valued as much less is somewhat absurd and threadbare. it seems Bianca does not know what is going on."

Jagger offered through her lawyer back in 2008 to donate the finder reward of 8,000 GBP to charity, she claims.

But this offer was rejected.

Schuberth said: "Offering 7,000 to Amnesty International and just 1000 to my clients was unacceptable. We politely rejected this offer.

Jagger's lawyers claim that the ring was not returned immediately after finding it and therefore he is not entitled to the reward.

But the Salzburg man claims it is because he thought the ring was worthless and only returned the ring when he heard Jagger had lost the ring.

It is now being checked whether the civil case will be heard in Salzburg or in London.
