The demand is still high so that the theatre management has included the musical in their seasonal programme for 16 performances.
35 performances were completely sold out after the premiere on 23 October 2011. This is the same with 19 performances in the ongoing season.
The management is trying to organise additional dates for more performances. Never in its history the Landestheater Salzburg has shown as many performances of a production as it has shown "The Sound of Music".
The advance sale for tickets in the third season started last Thursday. According to the theatre, "the tickets are sold like hotcakes".
Wietske van Tongeren is playing Maria once again. The Dutch singer and actress successfully performed the main character in the first season. Milica Jovanovich substituted Ms van Tongeren when she was engaged in Hamburg at the beginning of this season.
"The Sound of Music" was originally a Broadway musical, which was based on the "Story of the Trapp Family Singers". The musical film of 1965, starring Julie Andrews, gained international popularity.
The Landestheater said that they would do without an English version for now, as the audience is still interested in the German version.
