Salzburg must pull their socks up in Champions League

Red Bull Salzburg will have to pull their socks up if they are to qualify for the Champions league.

The Austrian champions were defeated 1:0 by Luxemburg’s tiny F91 Düdelingen squad in the second round of the qualifiers and need a win at home next week if they’re to go through.

Pundits described the visitors as undisciplined, tired and completely outclassed as they were defeated in front of a jubilant home crowd of just 1,567 spectators. And with a difference of 30 million euros between the two teams, the Salzburgers should feel ashamed.

Trainer Roger Schmidt described their efforts as „completely unacceptable". He added: „Düdelingen completely deserved the win. The only thing to be positive about is that we still have a return match to win."

It was the team’s worst Champion’s League defeat since they fell at the hands of the Faroe Island’s HB 1904 Torshavn two years ago.
