Austrian ski resort invests 10 Millions in ski lifts

An extensive investment in facilities at the Katschberg ski resort in Salzburg is set to be completed this year with a further investment of 10 million euros to ensure all of the lifts are fast and modern.

The latest investment which is set to begin in May with the replacement of the last of the old button lifts and chairlifts in favour of high-speed eight person lifts will complete the transformation that has made the Katschberg one of the most popular resorts in the country.

Lift manager Josef Bogensperger jr. said: "The snow cannons were a great investment because the runs can now stay open longer than ever and obviously having more slopes is also an advantage for visitors.

"The latest investment will see the final phase of the update with the removal and replacement of the last of the old facilities that are outdated, as they date from the 1980s."

The first lifts on the Katschberg were built in 1962 by Bogensperger’s grandfather. Nowadays the company employs 90 people during the peak winter season and 20 in the summer.

Currently 16 lifts take up to 25,000 people to the mountain tops every hour – the new eight person chair lift will increase this capacity tremendously, also because it will only take 20 minutes to reach the top – half of the time needed at the moment.

Bogensperger jr added that the final plans would be settled in May and that building will then begin almost immediately and he is optimistic that the new facilities will be all set and ready in December to kick of for the next winter season.
