Austria seeks 40 Dirndl ambassadors to New York

The Austrian tourist board Österreich Werbung is hoping to focus American thoughts on a holiday in Austria by signing up 40 young ladies to show off the latest in Alpine fashion around the country and events later this year.

The successful candidates will be provided with the traditional Alpine dress the Dirndl and will be invited to attend selected events in New York.

The first casting took place in the studio of the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, with the candidates including young Austrians that now live in America as well as Americans passionate about Austria.

The jury selecting the 40 candidates included Michael Gigl, ÖW-Region Manager for the USA & Australia, as well is the musician Hubert von Goisern, Fashion-Model Barbara Dürrer and the Austrian general consul in New York , Dr. Ernst-Peter Brezovszky.

The events organised include a picnic in Central Park during a concert venue from the New York Philharmonic orchestra and a dance evening at the Lincoln Center.

Anyone who can't experience the event live can enjoy them on www.facebook.com/austriatravelinfo.

It also offers the opportunity for candidates to enter the competition using the social media platforms.

Prices are also on offer including holidays to Salzburg and Bad Aussee.
